A special Bicentennial exhibit in the roles of the Royal Navy and Provincial Marine on Lake Erie during the War of 1812. Models, artifacts, uniforms, a live-fire video and hands-on displays. Opens May 13....
An amazing exhibit of scratch-built ship models from folk art to precise scale recreations of vessels and engines. Over 100 models from the museum's collection and from the workshops of local model makers. Runs until April 1, 2012...

A range of curriculum-based programmes are available for all grade levels. All are appoximately 90 minutes. Cost is $3.00 per student.

We can also partner with other Port Dover activities for a full-day outing.

IT'S ME FOR THE INLAND LAKES - Grades 1 to 3
Early life along the Great Lakes.
The lives of early settlers, sailors and fishermen on the north shore of Lake Erie. Includes simple technologies, a sailor's life, shipwrecks, immigration and early folk music. Plenty of opportunities for hands-on activities. Communities, Traditions, Pioneer Life, Simple Machines 90 minutes.

BY STEAM, SAIL & STRENGTH - Grades 2 - 5
Simple Machines Afloat & Ashore
An exploration of the simple machines used to sail and load the ships that sailed the Great Lakes. Levers, Pulleys, Gears and Inclined Planes are demonstrated along with a working model steam engine. We also build a model paddle wheel boat. The story of the wreck of the steamer Atlantic is also part of this program. 90 minutes

THE WAR OF 1812 - Grade 7 & 8
The Last Great Conflict
The exciting story of the last armed conflict to take place in Norfolk County. Using artifacts, historical reproductions , storytelling, music and role playing, this program explores the story of the War of 1812 from the varied points of view of the settlers, soldiers and sailors of old Norfolk County. Did you know that the British Navy built warships at Turkey Point? - That General Issac Brock launched his attack on Detroit from Port Dover? - That American raiders attacked and burned both Dover and Waterford? That the Battle of Lake Erie may have been lost thanks to a romantic interlude in Port Ryerse? These are all parts of the story of the War of 1812 - The parts that happened right here! 90 minutes.
